it's like being Ted Kennedy
it’s the doldrums followed by shitstorms of
being Ted Kennedy
it's the
Is of being Ted Kennedy

wanting to be John or Robert
preferring the Was
for having had the Jackness or Bobbiness

I would take the Oswalds, the Rubies, and the Sirhans
and the Sirhans
and so would Ted

Perhaps most problematic
is the way that your boots
just stood there after the rest of you
had combusted;

each standing as a little monument—
two cenotaphs in black patent leather
that sparked only cackling
and abject

ambivalence.
