THE REALLY SMART FOLKS NOWADAYS seem to love the multi-, the poly-, the hetero-. And they heap high praise on transparency.
That's their style. What they want, I reckon, is to make some bunch of things apparent AS a bunch of things, which is to say, as all tangled up with one another. It's seeing the
tangles that turns them on, I think. So they sit quietly and tease apart the tangles in their minds. They will tell you, too, that you are uncritical if you are not feeling out
the tangles and not speculating at the way they are tangled. I've wondered, at times, about what potentials they see in this being critical. If enough of us are critical, will the world
somehow improve? Or perhaps it's just the principle of the thing—perhaps being critical, in and of itself, is the higher satisfaction. My style is to pull at the tangle until it's a knot.
I get some real pleasure from that, I admit. Also, a knot is a much better weapon than a wispy tangle. And weapons, I'm pretty well convinced, have always made more sense than
transparencies.
